Client’s Vision

The homeowners wanted to take full advantage of their Boise Bench property, with sweeping views of downtown and the foothills. Their goal was to open up the back of the house and create a contemporary living space that framed the views rather than blocked them. From the start, they had a modern aesthetic in mind, seeking a streamlined, open, and architecturally bold home.

Scope of Work:

  • Replaced the front door and added new dining room space.
  • Removed interior walls for open‑concept kitchen and dining layout.
  • Installed custom cabinetry, heated flooring, and full trim/paint package.
  • Complete master suite renovation with high‑end finishes and fixtures.
  • New stair railing, drywall, and whole‑house detailing.

Our Challenges & Solutions

The primary design challenge involved the home’s original framing. Several load-bearing points ran from the roofline to the basement, making some wall removals more complex than anticipated. We developed a floor plan that preserved key structural elements while achieving the open, modern flow the clients wanted. Strategic layout adjustments and close coordination with structural engineering maintained design intent without major reconstruction. Construction presented technical challenges, including installing a large electric radiant heated floor system. We collaborated with our Schluter representative to develop a precise wiring plan, ensuring proper coverage, safety, and performance. Cabinetry also required careful attention: the clients selected Mirlux, a high-gloss veneer that needed consistent grain orientation. Close coordination with the cabinet builder and meticulous installation ensured every panel aligned perfectly, achieving the continuous, modern look envisioned.

What Makes This Project Unique

The home showcases the clients’ modern vision with Mirlux cabinetry, crisp waterfall countertops, and expansive windows framing panoramic Boise valley views. A standout feature is the master bathroom, where a backlit blue agate slab behind the bathtub creates a dramatic focal point. The project was recognized nationally, winning first place in the National Association of the Remodeling Industry’s annual awards. It demonstrates how bold modern design and careful craftsmanship can combine to create a home that is both sophisticated and memorable.
