Project Overview – Patio and outdoor living renovation with a modern aesthetic.
The homeowners live on the Boise River, and their home didn’t fully take advantage of the view. The client, a designer, wanted a modern, open living space that connected to the outdoors. The plan included removing a large section of the exterior wall and installing a wide Panasonic sliding door system that opens to a new covered patio with a hot tub. The goal was to create a functional, inviting space that highlights the river setting.
Because the client arrived with detailed plans, selections, and finishes, the design phase was straightforward. Our focus shifted to technical coordination, ensuring structural elements, materials, and construction details aligned with the modern aesthetic. Construction presented several challenges. Site access was limited due to the river and Greenbelt, so equipment had to be mobilized carefully to avoid environmental impact. The project began as COVID-related product shortages emerged, which we mitigated by ordering long-lead items early. The most technically demanding aspect was achieving a flat, continuous transition from interior to exterior, including tongue-and-groove ceilings, concealed Panasonic door tracks, and a drop-down blind chase. Precise framing and close coordination across trades delivered a seamless, uninterrupted look.
This remodel stands out for its connection to the Boise River and seamless indoor-outdoor integration. The sliding doors open the living room to a riverside patio, creating a space that engages the views year-round. Modern details—hidden tracks, continuous ceilings, and integrated blinds—enhance the space while keeping the focus on the surroundings, delivering a functional, well-crafted home that supports the homeowners’ lifestyle.
